First Saturday Dance @ Liberty Station

At Dorothea Laub Dance Place in Point Loma

First Saturday of the month · 7:30pm–10pmNext Sat, Nov 7

Contra and folk dance · $15–$25 · presented by San Diego Folk Heritage

A monthly first-Saturday contra dance at Liberty Station, preceded by a beginner’s lesson. The Nov. 7 dance features The Cactus Lickers and caller Ellie Konitshek.

The Nov. 7 band, The Cactus Lickers, is Jonathan Hellemeier, Jim Anderson, Peter Sharpe, and Charlie VanTassel. The beginner’s session welcomes newcomers, people brushing up on the steps, and those who want to help them while meeting new friends. San Diego Contra uses gender-neutral calling: Robins / right and Larks / left. No high-heeled dance shoes; wear soft- or suede-bottom dance shoes, dance-only sneakers, or ballet slippers, or dance in socks or barefoot. The venue’s Marley floor is sensitive to damage, and dancers may be asked to change shoes or dance barefoot or in socks if their shoes are damaging it. No smoking or vaping in the building or on the property. A water fountain is available; bringing your own water is suggested. Parking is in lots north of the building across the street, on the street, and at Liberty Station.
